For volunteers · Victoria
Thanks for helping out.
Your school sent you this page. Here's what to expect before you start volunteering, in about two minutes.
The short version
1. Your clearance
Most volunteers who help with students (in the canteen, on camps, at sport or in class) need a Working with Children Clearance. Apply or renew through Service Victoria.
Some people are exempt, such as a parent helping in an activity their own child takes part in. Your school may still ask you for a clearance.
2. The new training
From 19 October 2026, anyone applying for or renewing a clearance must complete mandatory child safety training. Follow the instructions Service Victoria gives you. Read about the changes.
3. Your school's form
Your school may send you a link or QR code to a short iComply form. It asks for your name, contact details, clearance number and role, and asks you to agree that the school can use your details to connect you in WWC Connect and to read the school's child safety code of conduct. The link works once and expires after 14 days.
Please don't start volunteering until the school has checked your clearance. They'll also give you an induction.
4. What the school does
The school checks your clearance in the Government's status checker before you start. Then it connects you to the school in WWC Connect within 21 days. If your clearance status changes, the school is told and you must stop volunteering straight away.
5. Your information
Your details are stored in Australia and used only for your school's records. Schools keep them for 7 years after you stop volunteering, as the Department requires. See our privacy policy.
Decision support, not legal advice. iComply is independent and is not affiliated with the Department of Education, the Social Services Regulator or Service Victoria. Victoria only. Rules last checked against the Department's policy and vic.gov.au. Your school still does the official check and connect in the Government's tools.
